Q&A: Alex Viada, Kris Gethin's Training Coach
Were you at all skeptical of Kris at the outset?
When Kris contacted me, I was hugely excited because I know he's going to have what it takes to push through it. The level of respect that he already had for this process going in was amazing. It's very easy to take it too lightly. You think, "How can people take an iron distance triathlon lightly?" But they do.
What does it take for a bodybuilder to finish an elite endurance event?
For somebody like Kris to say, "You know what? I'm going to do this right. I'm leaving no stone unturned. I'm going to speak to everybody I can. I'm going to immerse myself in this." That's exactly what you need. What we've noticed is that people come out from this type of training with tremendous respect for what other athletes go through.
What's a running "hack" for those with large, muscular frames?
Put an emphasis on trail running. It's softer terrain, so you can put in more miles and more hours with less wear and tear on the body.
